Review: Top View Restaurant at The Top Komtar

 Happy Birthday to me!!!

Not really excited about getting older but grateful I've made a circle around the sun safely figuratively speaking. Hubby made a reservation for Top View Restaurant through TableApp a week before my birthday on 19 Dec (Saturday). He made some requests directly with a WhatsApp number that has The Top logo so we assumed we were speaking directly with The Top management. Everything was smooth and we got email confirmation.

This isn't our God damn table even though we requested a week beforehand!

The service was fine. We were greeted from the carpark and was guided all the way from lift to the 68th floor without hassle and queue...like a VIP. Kudos to the staffs.

Komtar is a Penang icon therefore tourists and restaurant patrons have high expectation. You can read all about history of Komtar and it's major renovations from Google.

Overall the view was spectacular and that's all that matters. Once you see the view you will forget your problems for a short while.

Even though you are a customer of the restaurant, you still need to pay RM60 to enter that semi circle glass walkway called Rainbow Walk. Half price if your IC is a Penang number like us.

Hubby isn't very happy and I'll tell you later.

Manager Jerry Teoh was friendly and attentive. He offered to take photos of his customers after their meal and have a nice chat. Good job on your effort.

Hubby ordered the RM99++ 4 course meal. For starters we had fried tempura oyster. Nothing to shout about. Before hubby took me to The Top I told him to keep his expectations low for the food as they are known to have bad reviews.

The  soup was a tad too salty so I had to finish up hubby's portion. He only drank like 3 scoops.

My steak was more like 80% done instead of medium and the pink mayo looks like it doesn't belong there and the side vege looked cheap. Doesn't even look fine dining worthy. Hubby said my cooking and presentation even better.

Hubby's lamb was tough to chew on.

I loved the creme brulĂ© even though husband hates it because he felt too slimy and creamy.

As you can see, why are we sitting on a middle table instead of city view table right next to the window?

Well, here's the hiccup.

Reservation should have told us that table deco requires outsource vendor so that my husband could arrange. He also requested table by the window and all the replies he got was "OK Noted".

Instead ofogetting all our requests done, hubby was furious when the waiter brought us to an empty table. I was like "Were you planning a surprise?"

So husband informed and showed the WhatsApp messages to the staff who brought us to our so called table.

We waited and waited and husband dare not move from the table in case the restaurant staff revert back to him. You could have just told us we need to pay RM150 to the vendor who was decorating about 5-6 tables that day....we would gladly pay!

After waiting for an hour or so until I walked back from taking photos at the deck, husband did not get any answer and was served food immediately... all this while my husband waiting like a dumb person patiently!!!

There were 5-6 tables with decorations like above from the same decor company meaning the reservation must have recommended to whoever booked to engage with that company. You could have told us so! We arrived as early as 5:30pm and we witnessed the decor consultant busy working on those tables. Even the restaurant staffs did not inform us a single thing until the outsource decorator handed us his card.

You may go up and enjoy the view like any other tourists but I wouldn't recommend going into the restaurant.  We saw groups of people who visitee the outdoor deck and wanted a decent meal being turned away for not making reservation.
