Review: J. L. Gourmet Café

Hey foodies,

I'm back again with another restaurant review. This time I will introduce a deliciously affordable western food cafe that I always patronise. J. L. Gourmet Café is conveniently located in Prangin Mall. I have always passed by this corner cafe but didn't try until my colleagues brought me for lunch here years ago. Now it has became one of my fav. I noticed their dishes are familiarly similar to Mizi Bistro and after some research discovered both of these brands are under the same group.

A quiet little corner with tasty secret.

We love to order set meal because it's affordable.

I  don't know why I always order from the seafood section.

You should try chef's specialty too.

Pasta section is also my fav.

For starters of the set meal, each of us had a hearty bowl of onion and mushroom soup. I especially love their cream of mushroom. To me they serve one of the best mushroom soup in Penang. It looks plain here but as you scoop both bowls have lots to offer.

I had fillet of fish grenobloise, a lightly egg battered fish with lemon and capers butter sauce. Have to admit this is a very fattening dish but I don't mind at all in fact I didn't leave a drop of that sauce. Butter is life.

Hubby had chicken piccata if not mistaken. Besides crispy fried chicken in bread crumb and vege, pasta bolognese is also served as sides.

Both of us chose mint ice cream to end the set. At Mizi, ice cream is unlimited and you can put whatever toppings you like.

With soup, main, dessert and a drink I highly recommend this to all.

At the end of every food review there's a question. Would I come again? Definitely yes for this as we have been loyal customers for years. Glad they didn't change the menu or increase the price drastically.
